Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (SSNLF) jumped after a report suggested the company is finally ready to flip the switch on mass production of its next generation HBM4 memory, a critical building block for today's AI infrastructure boom.

Shares climbed as much as 6.4% Monday after Yonhap News reported that Samsung plans to begin shipping HBM4 chips to Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) as early as the third week of February. The memory is expected to be used in Nvidia's upcoming Vera Rubin AI accelerators, citing unnamed industry sources.

HBM4 is a meaningful upgrade over existing HBM3 and HBM3E products, delivering higher bandwidth and better power efficiency at a time when AI models are growing larger and more computationally intense. That makes next gen HBM one of the most contested parts of the semiconductor supply chain, with Samsung competing closely against SK hynix and Micron for Nvidia's business.

Samsung has not publicly confirmed the timeline, but the report hints the company may be closing the gap after earlier setbacks in qualifying advanced HBM products. With Nvidia still allocating supply tightly, even incremental progress can move sentiment quickly.
