Visa (NYSE:V) is making a bigger bet on Argentina, agreeing to acquire Prisma Medios de Pago and Newpay in a move that gives it deeper control over the country's payments infrastructure.

Prisma handles card issuer processing for credit, debit, and prepaid cards, while Newpay operates real-time payments, the Banelco ATM network, and the popular bill pay platform PagoMisCuentas. In simple terms, Visa is not just expanding partnerships, it is buying into the plumbing of Argentina's payment system. The company says the deal will help roll out newer technologies like tokenization, biometric authentication, and more advanced fraud detection tools. The transaction is expected to close in Visa's fiscal Q2 2026.
