Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) and OpenAI appear to be hitting reset on their massive funding arrangement. Instead of moving forward with the previously discussed $100 billion long term commitment, the companies are now close to finalizing a $30 billion equity investment, according to the Financial Times.

The $30 billion investment would be part of a broader funding round that could raise more than $100 billion overall and value OpenAI at $730 billion before the new cash comes in. A large portion of that fresh capital is expected to be spent on Nvidia's AI hardware, keeping the relationship tightly intertwined. The deal could reportedly be wrapped up as soon as this weekend.

This looks less like a retreat and more like a restructuring. Rather than locking into a huge multi year obligation, the companies seem to be opting for a cleaner equity based arrangement.
