Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) is close to completing a $30 billion equity investment in OpenAI, replacing a previously outlined $100 billion long-term arrangement between the companies, the Financial Times reported Thursday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The new investment is part of a broader funding round expected to raise more than $100 billion and value OpenAI at about $730 billion, excluding the fresh capital, the report said.

OpenAI is expected to direct a substantial portion of the proceeds toward purchasing Nvidia's artificial intelligence chips and related hardware. The transaction could be finalized as early as this weekend, according to the report.
The earlier $100 billion framework had outlined a longer-term capital commitment tied to AI infrastructure and chip supply. The revised structure shifts to a direct equity investment, potentially streamlining funding and hardware procurement.
Shares of Nvidia edged lower about 1% in early trading following the report.
