President Donald Trump’s newly introduced 10% global tariff will be in force for 150 days after taking effect on Feb. 24, the White House announced late Friday after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down most of the tariffs he imposed last year.
The announcement came after Trump signed a proclamation, invoking authority under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 to impose the new import duty. “By taking this action, the United States can stem the outflow of its dollars to foreign producers and incentivize the return of domestic production.”
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court issued a 6-3 ruling arguing that Trump exceeded his powers when he invoked the International Emergency Economic Powers Act of 1977 to set sweeping tariffs against more than 100 countries last year.
