Meta Platforms Inc. (META, Financials) is reportedly preparing to integrate stablecoins across its platforms by the second half of 2026, marking a renewed push into digital payments four years after winding down its Libra/Diem crypto project.

According to CoinDesk, Meta is pursuing a more cautious strategy this time by working with established stablecoin operators rather than issuing its own token. The approach would allow the company to incorporate dollar-backed digital assets into Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp without directly handling regulatory compliance tied to operating a cryptocurrency network.

Sources indicate Meta has issued a request for product proposals to third-party providers. Stripe Inc. is considered a leading candidate following its stablecoin infrastructure acquisition and executive ties to Meta's board.

The proposed deployment might include a digital wallet that supports dollar-pegged tokens. This would put Meta back in the stablecoin sector after its 2019 Libra project, which was subsequently renamed Diem and shut down in 2022, was stopped by legal issues.
